Saoirse Ronan knows how to make the most of a trip to Los Angeles. While the actress made a quick jaunt across the pond for the 2024 Academy Museum Gala, she has a lot to look forward to in a short period of time. “I have a lot of friends in Los Angeles, so I like to see them when I go out and eat as much delicious food as humanly possible,” Ronan tells Vogue. “Joan is on the third Chinese chicken salad, I’m coming for you!”
Beyond the Los Angeles food scene, Ronan was excited about the gala itself, namely presenting the Vantage Award to her dear friend Paul Mescal. “The highlight of the night was having the opportunity to go up on stage in front of a room full of people I respect and talk about my friend, and then give him an award in celebration of his incredible work over the past few years. ” he says of honoring Mescal.
The actor turned to Nicolas Ghesquière for his high-octane Louis Vuitton look: a backless black column dress with a structured origami top that created an exaggerated shoulder. “For me, the dress shows how well Nicolas understands a woman’s body and the power it has,” she says. Styled by Danielle Goldberg, Ronan upped the glamor with a pair of Ana Khouri earrings. “What attracted me to the outfit was its drama, its elegance, the structure over the bust and the incredible back,” she says. “Danielle helped me see all the beautiful intricacies of this dress and the story we could tell with it.” Adding the finishing touches were Nina Park in makeup and Bryce Scarlett in hair.
Awards season is quickly approaching and we’ll no doubt be seeing a lot more of Ronan, who returned to the screen to star in Blitz and The Outrun, in the coming months. “Preparing for a gala is no different than preparing for an awards ceremony. The only difference is that we know who will win the award that night,” he says. Fortunately, the veteran actress has her routine under control. “I exercised and ate heartily before I left,” he says. “I played the Brat album all day.”
Something she also has as a science? The after. “Something I’ve learned over the years is that it’s always best to bring a friend if you can. Always have apartments nearby. And before you head out for the night, schedule your In-N-Out order for after the event is over.”
